How to Have a Fabulous Portrait Session with Young Children

  Many parents of young children want nothing more than beautiful pictures of their family. Often times this is not the easiest thing to achieve. Little kids have a personality all their own and are trying to prove it to everyone. Consequently, they are not always super cooperative. I think I have found the key to fantastic family portraits. It cannot be about taking pictures. It has to be about an activity that your family likes to do together.

I tried this with my friends/clients this holiday season and it worked like a charm! I suggested either baking Christmas cookies or making a gingerbread house together and I would photograph them while they "worked". They decided to make Christmas cookies and ordered the cutest aprons and hats to wear during the session. We quickly put up Christmas decorations in the kitchen and got the kids baking. The kids had a great time and we captured wonderful pictures of them spending time together as a family.
