What to Wear: Spring Family Edition | South Florida Family Photographer
This being the first week of spring I thought I'd create a little #WhatToWear mood board for spring family portrait sessions. The particular family that inspired this mood board has two little girls and a toddler boy so that's who I selected outfits for.
Color is one thing that is a must for portrait sessions regardless of season. In this case the poppy red adds a nice burst of color against the the navy, denim and white and will look fantastic when printed. You don't want everyone to be in the same color and super matchy, matchy. If you look at the outfits for the kids, notice they will all be wearing a different color. The little romper has just a splash of the poppy red which accentuates the cute striped tank. Mom and dad coordinate nicely as well, with the navy blazer acting as a neutral divider between Mom's poppy dress and Dad's poppy striped tee. In South Florida I would recommend substituting a navy, linen button down for the blazer shown on Dad above. We don't want him keeling over from heat stroke during the session!
Something to keep in mind is what you'll be doing during the portrait session. I wanted to keep the clothing casual for this family because dad said the girls like to fish. After we capture our posed family pictures that everyone loves, I plan on asking the kids to do a little fishing so I can capture the beautiful lifestyle images that tell more of a story about the family and what they like to do together.
The key thing is for everyone to be comfortable and especially for women, to consider what your assets are and play those up. The dress featured here, which can be found at Nordstrom, is fantastic for someone with great legs who may want something that doesn't accentuate their arms or stomach.
I am just dying for someone to dress their little boy in the H&M suspender pants. They are just too cute! They can be worn with a white t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up 50's style or without a shirt for a more rascal style look. Don't forget about accessories either; the straw fedora will make that outfit.
